Are TREKS guides First Aid Certified? Do you have a risk assessment and management plan?
Yes, all TREKS guides are first aid trained. Our first aid and response procedures are based on international standards. We also use the guidelines set forth by the British Standardization Institute (BSI) code BS:8848 for the creation of our Risk Assessment and Management System, as well as the general management of the itineraries.
Are there bathrooms/toilets on the hike?
Not really! Around certain campsites there might be a small wooden outhouse for those willing to brave the experience. Otherwise, you just veer off the trail and find a nice boulder or tree.
Where is the drinking water coming from?
Drinking water will be sourced from nearby rivers and streams. Our team is equipped with a filter system to ensure water is safe to drink.
What kind of food will we eat?
Mostly vegetables, fruits, dates, eggs, rice, bread, pasta (we can accommodate food based on the clients’ preferences and dietary restrictions). In addition to some meats, chicken and fish. We recommend you take some of your favorite snacks as well.
Is there support along the trail? What will they be carrying?
Full-support will be provided. Porters to carry our sleeping bags, extra clothing, equipment and personal items. Each person is limited to a 13 kg weight duffel bag.
Is tipping the local guides required?
It is not mandatory, but recommended. The livelihoods of our local support staff (guides and porters) depends on the money they make during the trek, most of which comes from tips.
Is the plane ticket included in the price?
No. You will either book your own flight or we can do it, however keep in mind that the prices depend on the season and time of reservation.
Will you issue me an invoice?
Yes. Furthermore, payments can be made in cash, by cheque, bank transfer or credit card.
When is it best to visit?
January - February are the best months on Kilimanjaro, with moderate temperatures and very few inches of rainfall. However, with any high-altitude expedition, one must come prepared for whatever mother nature throws our way. Also, the higher we get, the colder it becomes! Temperatures can drop below -10 C.
Is it safe?
Hiking is not a dangerous activity, but a certain degree of caution is required. Our team will take all necessary precautions to make sure we have a good time and come back home safe.
Will my life be forever changed?
We’d like to think so. It is often said that people visit Nepal for the beautiful landscapes, and return once again for the people. For many, hiking Kilimanjaro is a transformative experience.
Do I need COVID-19 vaccine certificate to be allowed to enter Tanzania?
Yes, you need to print out your vaccination certificate (if applicable) and show it at Kilimanjaro International Airport. if you are not vaccinated you need a negative PCR test not exceeding 48 hours before your arrival date
Do I need to be vaccinated against any other disease?
Yes, We highly recommend that you get vaccinated against Yellow fever, which is a viral infection that occurs in Africa. Most people begin to develop immunity within ten days of vaccination and 99 percent are protected within one month, and this appears to be lifelong. Therefore we advise all the hikers joining our trip to get vaccinated at least 10 days before the date of their travel departure.
